    ABOUT THE BEAN:

Andre Hakizimana lives and breathes coffee.

At the age of 56, he has been working in coffee for 40 years. As well as running one of the largest and most celebrated coffee farms in Rwanda, Andre is also a founding member and former president of the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative: a coffee farming co-op in Rwanda’s Northern Province. In the off-season from his own farm, Andre provides maintenance, support and improvements to the cooperative. When on his own farm, he works 100% organically, using his livestock’s manure to fertilise his coffee crop, and he has planted pumpkin and banana trees to reduce erosion and keep the soil healthy and moist. Andre’s approach to farming and work at Dukunde Kawa shows his dedication to sustainable investment in the future of his family, his community’s and the environment.

Andre has become a standard bearer for what Rwandan coffee can be. The care and passion that Andre puts into his craft is perfectly represented in this exceptional coffee. Stitch Coffee is truly honoured to present this single producer micro-lot from one of Rwanda’s best.

Expect a clean and balanced profile with a lengthy finish and notes of honey, orange and black tea. This coffee – a fully washed red bourbon – is good, seriously good. It is one of our favourites of the year and perfectly represents a coffee savant at the height of his powers.  This is a very rare and very special micro-lot from one of the finest coffee farmers in Rwanda.
