Marvel at this natural geisha (Lot 11) from the award-winning Santamaría Estate in Chiriquí, Panama. The family took bronze in both the Washed and Natural Geisha categories at the 2017 Best of Panama, which is an indication of how well they know this variety. The family’s agricultural legacy is 75 years in the making, built on sustainable practices that show up directly in the cup. You can taste the evidence in Lot 11’s three-layered fruit approach that’s supported by a light body, balanced acidity, and superb, sweet jasmine aroma.

    ABOUT THE FARM

Patriarch Don Urbano Santamaría planted the estate’s first crop in 1950, and the 120-hectare Paso Ancho farm has been producing specialty coffee varieties ever since. The Santamaría Estate is characterised by its nutrient-rich volcanic soil, steady annual rainfall, and high altitude — all ideal conditions for growing geisha. While 80% of the farm is employed for coffee production, the rest remains untouched as a forest reserve in the Santamaría family’s commitment to conservation and sustainable farming.
