About the Bean
ETHIOPIA, GEISHA VILLAGE (SURMA)
A 1931 geisha plucked from a farm bursting with some of the rarest varietals known on this side of the coffee belt—no wonder the Geisha Village Estate is renowned for producing cups as awe-inspiring as the land it resides on. Near the South Sudanese border and the birthplace of geisha, this varietal was grown on the Surma portion of the 471-hectare estate. Intensely floral and fruity, this Surma lot was processed natural to give full credence to the bean’s innate perfumed notes of rose and spices.
ABOUT GEISHA VILLAGE ESTATE
Geisha Village is proud to bring the coffee world’s most lauded variety back to its roots, a prophecy fulfilled when the estate broke the record for the highest-paid geisha sourced from Africa in 2023.
Residing in Ethiopia’s Bench Maji zone, the Village specialises in three varieties of geisha grown across seven sub-farms that comprise the 471-hectare estate. Thanks to an agroforestry approach and commitment to community, Geisha Village Estate has stamped an indelible mark on the specialty coffee industry in just a little over a decade, speaking to the innovative nature of its beans.
